Lakewood, COLO – MSU Denver's offense struggled Thursday, as the Roadrunners dropped both games of a doubleheader against 10
th-ranked Colorado Christian. The Cougars blanked the Red and Blue by finals of 8-0 and 7-0 at All Star Park. MSU Denver's record now stands at 24-12 overall and 17-9 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. CCU is now 35-3 overall and has won 31 straight games.
Game One: MSU Denver 0, Colorado Christian 8 (5 inn)
The Roadrunners had a chance to set the tone in the first inning against the top team in the conference.
Neila Lucero and
Cheyenne Prieto both singled, while Nelia Fee was hit by a pitch to load the bases with two outs. But
Janessa Esquibel struck out swinging to end the threat. MSU Denver would only find on more base hit the rest of the way.
CCU pitcher Felesha Lepenske improved to 14-0 on the season after holding the Roadrunners to zero runs on three hits while striking out five batters. Lepenske also helped her own cause driving in a run in the bottom of the first inning to start the scoring for her team.
The Cougars got to Roadrunners starting pitcher
Natalie Romero early scoring four runs in the first two innings. Kat Hanson led the way for CCU going 3-for-3, with two runs scored and two runs driven in.
Game Two: MSU Denver 0, Colorado Christian 7
CCU pitcher Lisa Liddell gave up just five base hits in the second game and went the distance giving up zero runs. She picked up her 10
th win on the season. Liddell got some help by her defense in the sixth inning after she got Fee to ground into a double play.
Roadrunners starting pitcher Sam Mader gave up four earned runs on four hits in an inning-and-a-third to pick up the loss. Relief pitcher
Kianna Butler battled to keep her team in the game allowing just three runs in 4.2 innings pitched while striking out two.
It looked like MSU Denver was in business in the second inning after
Victoria Pearson singled and after twin sister
Mackenzie Pearson walked with two outs on the board. But Mackenzie was caught stealing at second base to end the inning.
The Roadrunners will look to rebound tomorrow as they'll head right back to Lakewood to finish out the four-game set with Colorado Christian. First pitch will be about 12:05 mountain time.
