SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Sophomore Markus Beck scored his first collegiate goal as the MSU Denver men's soccer team battled Northwest Nazarene to a 1-1 draw Saturday afternoon in the Roadrunners' second match of the season.
After dropping a heartbreaking result in Thursday's season opener, the Roadrunners responded by earning a draw in the second match of their Utah road trip.
MSU Denver struck first when Beck found the back of the net in the 17th minute. Charlie Lucero set up the score, assisting on Beck's first career collegiate goal at the 16:01 mark to give the Roadrunners an early 1-0 advantage.
Northwest Nazarene answered less than 10 minutes later, scoring at the 25:32 mark to even the match at 1-1. Neither team was able to break through for the remainder of the contest as the match ended in a draw.
The Nighthawks held a slight 11-9 advantage in total shots and generated eight corner kicks compared to four for MSU Denver. Northwest Nazarene also recorded five saves, while the Roadrunners made three.
Rhyson Johnston led MSU Denver with two shots on goal, while Bryan Vazquez and Beckett Heynen each added a shot on target.
The Roadrunners will return to Denver for their home opener on Friday, hosting Lubbock Christian.
