DENVER – Ismael Reyes found the back of the net early in the second half, and MSU Denver held on for a 1-0 victory over Hawaii Hilo on Monday night at the Assembly Athletic Complex.
The Roadrunners improved to 2-1-2 with their second win of the young season, while Reyes continued his strong start to the campaign with his team-leading third goal.
After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, MSU Denver broke through in the 50th minute. Colin McKenna played the ball to Reyes, who finished the opportunity at the 49:17 mark to put the Roadrunners ahead 1-0. The assist was McKenna's second of the season.
MSU Denver created several opportunities throughout the match, finishing with an 11-9 advantage in shots and putting five attempts on target compared with three for Hawaii Hilo. The Roadrunners also held a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.
Reyes led the Roadrunners with three shots, including two on goal, while McKenna added three shots and one on target. Rhyson Johnston recorded two shots, with one requiring a save from Hawaii Hilo goalkeeper Tim Teicher.
The Roadrunners' defense kept Hawaii Hilo off the scoreboard despite several late opportunities. Dominic Miller made two saves over 90 minutes to earn another shutout on the season. Hawaii Hilo managed only three shots on target, and MSU Denver's defensive effort preserved the one-goal advantage through the final whistle.
The Roadrunners return to action with a 2-1-2 record after securing their second victory of the season.
