Metro State plays its indoor events at the Auraria Event Center, one of the premier NCAA Division II collegiate arenas in the country. Renovated in 1992, the AEC seats 2,300 spectators in chair-back seats, and has been host to various conference and regional tournaments.
Originally built in 1976, the gymnasium (formerly called Auraria Gymnasium) contained 30,000 square feet and was primarily used for Metro State's Physical Education and Campus Recreation departments. On Sept. 14, 1990, an expansion project was started that added another 38,000 square feet and various other improvements to the facility.
This renovated building features semi-automated theatre-style chairs, four additional racquetball courts, an 1,800-square foot weight/fitness area, two additional dressing areas, one auxiliary gymnasium, a gymnastics/ combatives area, a renovated main locker facility, a full-service training area, student lounges, a multi-purpose activity center to accommodate recreational events and additional public restrooms.
In the summer of 1999, the AEC floor was sanded down and re-painted featuring a large Roadrunner logo at center court. New championship banners have also been added.
The Roadrunners host their outdoor events at the Regency Athletic Complex. The complex will be a new addition to the college, where all the facilities will be in one general area. The baseball and softball teams, men's and women's soccer teams and men's and women's tennis teams share the outdoor facility that houses six tennis courts, a baseball field, a softball field and soccer field. Seating is available for 500 fans at each of the three sites.
