Bret Williamson will begin his first year at Metro State Baseball, working primarily with the hitters and outfielders.
Williamson began his college baseball career in 1982 at Central Arizona College, where he hit .357 with nine Home Runs, 52 RBI and 20 stolen bases in 40 games. After his first year at Central, he was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 19th round. He turned down the offer by the Brewers to finish his college education at Mesa State College.
While at Mesa State, Bret hit .420 with 24 home runs, 124 RBI, 26 stolen bases and a slugging percentage of .702 in 117 games for his career. In 1984, Bret had a .444 batting average and was named All-America. In 1985, Bret hit .423 to become Mesa State's first two-time All-American. In 1986, Bret hit .396 with eight home runs and 40 RBI and was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 26th round and played in the Reds' organization for several years.
Williamson, along with Metro State's Pitching Coach, Daven Bond, have been coaching Colorado's Junior Olympic Team and the Colorado Rockies Scout Team together for the last 12 years. Together, the two have seen hundreds of players come through their Rockies Scout Team go onto to play college baseball and over 50 players play professional baseball. Williamson was also an assistant varsity baseball coach at Monarch High School in 2003.
After Williamson's professional baseball career, he became a Commissioned Baseball Scout for the Montreal Expos for several years. Bret is currently a lieutenant for the Denver Metro Area Fire Department and has been in the fire service for 19 years.
Williamson is a native of Fremont, Calif., and has been married to his wife, Danielle, for 21 years. They have two children, Brennen, 18 years old and Sierra, 16 years old.
