Bond enters his first season as the pitching and assistant coach at Metro State. He brings over 30 years of playing and coaching experience at the high school, collegiate and professional level.
Bond is a Colorado native, graduating from Cortez High School and earning his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Mesa State College in Grand Junction, Colo. He played four years of varsity basketball and baseball at Mesa State before signing a professional baseball contract in 1986 with the Houston Astros. Bond left Mesa State as the second-leading scorer in Maverick basketball history. He was a three-time All-RMAC basketball player and a two-time all-conference baseball player.
Bond played seven years of professional baseball in the Houston Astros, New York Yankees, and Seattle Mariners organizations, also playing two years of Winter Ball in Aragua, Venezuela.
In 1993, Bond founded The Yard Baseball Academy and it has grown to a nationally recognized youth training center.
Before coming to Metro State, he spent the last seven years at Front Range Christian High School as the head baseball coach. He was an associate scout for the Colorado Rockies for over 10 years and has coached the Colorado Rockies Fall Scout team the past 12 years. The past 10 years he has coordinated and coached Team Colorado in the USA Baseball Junior Olympics in Jupiter, Fla. Bond also coaches his daughter’s fastpitch team, the Colorado Stampede 18A.
Daven Bond resides in Lakewood with his wife, Tawna and 17-year-old daughter, Megan, who is a junior at Columbine H.S.
