Matt Jones enters his first season with the MSU Denver baseball program in 2026 as an assistant coach, bringing an extensive background in professional baseball and player development.
Jones brings more than a decade of high-level playing experience, including seven-plus years as a professional catcher in Minor League Baseball. He reached the Triple-A level while spending time in the Arizona Diamondbacks, Toronto Blue Jays, and Los Angeles Angels organizations, developing a deep understanding of the game from a defensive, strategic, and leadership standpoint behind the plate.
Following his professional playing career, Jones founded and operates ONE6 Performance in Arvada, Colorado, a baseball development facility focused on skill enhancement, mental conditioning, and performance optimization. Since 2020, he has worked closely with high school, collegiate, and professional athletes, including current MiLB and MLB players, emphasizing individualized instruction, game planning, and growth mindset development.
A native of Colorado, Jones earned his degree in Sports Management from Southern Illinois University Carbondale after beginning his collegiate career at Central Arizona College. Known for his high-energy approach and passion for mentoring student-athletes, Jones adds professional insight, strong communication skills, and a player-first development philosophy to the Roadrunners’ coaching staff.
