Roger Plank is entering his third season as an assistant baseball coach at Metropolitan State University of Denver in 2020.
Plank came to the the Roadrunner baseball program after a 29-year high school teaching and coaching career in Colorado.
He was a member of the Northern Colorado baseball team from 1974 through 1977 where he was a starting outfielder for two years and was a part of the Bears team that played in the College World Series in 1974 in Omaha, Neb. He was a college teammate of Joe Strain, the father of MSU Denver coach Ryan Strain, and reunited with his ex-teammate on the Roadrunners' coaching staff in 2019.
In 1977, Plank started his teaching and coaching career in Fort Morgan, coaching baseball, football, and basketball. He then moved to Sterling, where he continued to coach three sports at Sterling High School. During his tenure in Sterling, he was the head coach in football and baseball and was an assistant basketball coach. He was named Tri-Valley Conference coach of the year in football and baseball. He finished his career at Chaparral High School, where he was an assistant coach in baseball, football, and basketball.
Plank received his bachelor’s degree in business/economics and physical education from Northern Colorado in 1977 and his master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of Phoenix in 2004.
A native of Sterling, Colo., he currently resides in Denver with his wife, Mary. He has has three children (Joey, Stacie and Angie) and two grandchildren (Peyton and Freya Grace).
