T.J. Schmidt

T.J. Schmidt joined the Metropolitan State University of Denver training staff in August, 2017. He is the main point of contact for baseball, men's soccer and tennis.

He came to MSU Denver from Johnson & Wales (Colo.), where he was the head athletic trainer for one year. Prior to that he spent three years as assistant athletic trainer at Concordia (Neb.), where he was responsible for more than 220 student-athletes each year and served as the trainer for the football, wrestling, men's and women's tennis, cheer and dance teams. While there, he assisted in the writing and implementation of concussion policy and protocol.

Before joining Concordia, Schmidt was the athletic trainer for the Wise Regional Health System in Decatur, Texas, during part of 2013, after serving as athletic trainer intern at Wisconsin-Eau Claire during the 2012-13 academic year. His sport responsibilities included women's tennis, men's and women's swimming, women's hockey, and softball.

As a collegiate student-athlete, Schmidt was an All-American and a four-time National Championships qualifier in gymnastics at Nebraska. He was fifth on the pommel horse as a sophomore at the NCAA Championships. He was a finalist for the Nissen Emery Award, which is given to the nation's most outstanding senior collegiate gymnast. A team co-captain as a senior, he won 33 individual event titles during his career with the Huskers.

A native of Blair, Neb., he earned a bachelor's degree in nutrition, exercise and health sciences from Nebraska in 2009, and a master's in athletic training from Texas Tech in 2012.
