Booker Harris

Booker Harris is in his second season as an assistant coach for Metro State in 2010-11. In his first year, the Roadrunners went 24-7 overall and 14-5 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, finishing tied for first place in the East Division. Metro State also advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

He joined the staff as an assistant coach in 2009-10 after spending two years as the Director of Basketball Operations at NCAA Division I University of San Diego. While at USD, the Toreros won the 2008 West Coast Conference Tournament championship and defeated the University of Connecticut in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Harris also brings experience as an assistant coach from Cal State San Bernardino, where he spent four years. The Coyotes finished 26-6 overall in 2006-07, his final year there, and won the NCAA West Region championship, advancing to the Division II semifinals. CSSB was a combined 86-28 during his four years as an assistant.

Harris also spent one year (2002-03) at Long Beach State University as the strength and conditioning coach. He began his coaching career in 2001-02 as an assistant at Sonoma State University and earned his master’s degree from SSU in 2003.

As an undergraduate, Harris earned his bachelor’s degree in 1999 from the University of San Francisco in business administration. He played three seasons for the Dons basketball team and was a member of the 1997-98 West Coast Conference Tournament championship team that played NCAA runner-up Utah in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Harris was also a two-time WCC All-Academic selection.

A native of San Francisco, Harris graduated from Bridgemont High School, where he averaged 28 points as a senior. He comes from a basketball family and was coached by his father, Booker T. Harris, in high school. Harris’ Bridgemont H.S. scoring record was broken by his younger brother, who is now an assistant coach at Skyline Junior College in San Bruno, Calif.
