Stacy Schmidt

Schmidt joined the Metro State coaching staff in 2010-11 as a volunteer assistant for the sprinters and jumpers and will enter her second season with the team in 2011-12.

In her first season with the Roadrunners, her sprinters showed strong results, despite a small number of competitors.  Junior Derek Fiorini put together his best season at Metro State, setting four school records between the indoor and outdoor seasons.  During indoor, he broke the 60 meter record, twice running sub-7.00 times, the first two such times at Metro State.  His 6.97 time on Feb. 12 is the new school record.  He also broke the 200 record with a time of 22.26 on Jan. 14.  Fiorini qualified for finals at the RMAC Championships in the 60, but missed the finals with food poisoning.

During the outdoor season, Schmidt helped Fiorini earn first team All-RMAC in the 200 and 400, including capturing the conference championship in the 200.  His time of 21.20 in the 200 was also a provisional qualifying time for the NCAA Championships, as was his time at the conference meet in the 400 of 47.59.  Another sprinter, Jake Wolford, was named third team All-RMAC in the 400 meter hurdles.

Schmidt's jumpers set three school records in 2011, as did her women's hurdler.  Vail Davis broke both the indoor and outdoor school records in the long jump and set the mark in the 100 hurdles.  Luke Thompson broke the record in the men's long jump.
