Andrew Ghizzone joined the MSU Denver track & field staff as an assistant coach in August 2022. He primarily works with the Roadrunners’ throwers and multi-event athletes, bringing a diverse background as both a collegiate athlete and coach.
Ghizzone came to MSU Denver after serving as a volunteer assistant coach at the University of Colorado, his alma mater, beginning in 2018. During his time with the Buffaloes, he worked with jumpers and multi-event athletes. As a student-athlete at Colorado, Ghizzone established himself as one of the program’s top combined-events performers, setting seven school records in multi-events and becoming the CU indoor heptathlon record holder. He won the heptathlon at the 2018 MPSF Indoor Championships and finished runner-up in the decathlon at the 2018 Pac-12 Championships. He also qualified for five USATF National Championships and recorded a career-best 7,540 points in the decathlon in 2019.
A native of Union, New Jersey, Ghizzone was a 6x high school All-American at Union Catholic, where he won state titles in the pole vault and 1,600 meters. He earned a bachelor's degree in philosophy from the University of Colorado in 2018.
