Charles Gomez will begin his second season as an assistant coach/recruiting coordinator for the Metro State cross country and track teams in 2011-12.

In his first season, Gomez helped guide the men's cross country team to a 17th place finish at the NCAA Championships and fourth place in the RMAC.  Three men's runners qualified for nationals and earned All-America honors during the indoor track season, highlighted by Shawn Lindbom's second place finish in the 800 meters.  During the outdoor season, two more qualified for the NCAA Championships and Brandon Johnson earned All-America in the 5k with a fifth place finish.

He joined the Roadrunners after spending three years working for the Bo Reeds High Altitude Distance Camp.

Prior to his time with the distance camps, Gomez served as an assistant coach at Scottsdale Community College from 2006-08.  He graduated from Scottsdale C.C. with an associates degree in 2005, where he ran track and cross country.  He earned all-conference honors in 2002 in track and was a national qualifier in the 4x800 meter relay, 800 meters and the 1500 meters in 2005.

Gomez is a native of Yuma, Ariz., and graduated from Cibola High School in 2000.  He is currently pursuing his bachelor's degree at Metro State.
