Cole Davis joined the MSU Denver staff as a volunteer assistant in August, 2020.
Davis is entering his 12th season working with collegiate track & field athletes in 2021. He moved to downtown Denver after spending the 2019-20 season as the head cross country and track & field coach at Johnson & Wales, before the program was eliminated in cuts resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. During his eight months of leadership, the program broke six school records, and received commitments from more than 30 new student-athletes.
Davis was the head men’s and women’s track & field coach at Friends (Kan.) from 2012 through 2019. During his time at Friends, Davis helped develop the Falcons into a powerhouse within their conference. Teams under his direction showed dominance in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference, winning 23 conference championships during his tenure, with the women’s program winning 10 straight from 2015 through 2019 (indoor and outdoor). The highlight of his leadership culminated during the 2018 season, when both the men’s and women’s programs brought home Top-10 team finishes at the NAIA indoor national championships (the women were fourth, the men ninth). Over eight, his student-athletes won 175 individual conference titles, and he produced 95 All-Americans, and eight national champions.
He was named the KCAC Coach of the Year 11 times and was named the South Central Region Coach of the Year five times.
Prior to Coaching at Friends, Davis was an assistant coach for one season at Pratt (Kan.) Community College. He specialized in coaching the jumps/throws athletes and helped the Beaver athletes break six school records.
Davis finished his collegiate career in 20110 competing as a decathlete for Emporia State (Kan.). He received both bachelor’s and a master’s degrees from Emporia State while majoring in health, physical education, and recreation. He has his USATF Level 1 coaching certification and he also gained a certification from the USTFCCA Coaches Academy as a track & field strength and conditioning coach.
