Douglas R.E. Ries joined the MSU Denver track & field coaching staff in August, 2023.
Previously he had spent 17 years coaching, adopting the speed and power training model as the cornerstone of his coaching philosophy. This foundational approach has been instrumental in shaping the success stories that have emerged from his coaching tenure. Over the course of 17 years, he has not only coached on the club level but has also made his presence felt in the high school arena, amassing seven years of experience coaching at the high school level.
He helped guide more than 50 student-athletes to collegiate competition, with multiple High School All-Americans emerging under his guidanc with several representing Team USA on the international stage.
Ries spent five seasons as associate head coach at Parker Lutheran High School, helping the team to four state championships.
He is known for his unwavering dedication to the holistic development of his athletes. His coaching approach goes beyond the field, emphasizing character building, teamwork, and leadership skills that extend far beyond their athletic careers.
His daughter, Maya, set multiple MSU Denver program records in the 60-meter hurdles (indoors) and the 100 hurdles (outdoors). Another daughter, Chyna, competed at Texas, Tennessee and TCU
