Jeanine Wasielewski finished her first season as an assistant coach at Metro State in 2012-13.
She helped an inexperienced squad in 2012-13 to 21 wins and the third consecutive NCAA tournament appearance after graduating four key seniors from 2012, including All-America point guard Jasmine Cervantes. MSU Denver still finished second in the RMAC in 2013 despite returning just five players and even advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament after the Roadrunners upset third-seed St. Mary's (Texas) in the first round.
As has become custom with Roadrunners teams, MSU Denver led the RMAC in scoring defense (51.2) in conference games and held opponents to an RMAC-best .350 field goal percentage. Metro State was led by RMAC defensive player of the year Kristin Valencia, who graduates second in career rebounding at Metro State.
With only the five returning players eligible for academic all-conference, four Roadrunners earned the honor as the team continued its excellence in the classroom.
Wasielewski joined Metro State with a combined 12 years of experience as an NCAA Division I student-athlete, coach, program administrator, tournament committee member and NCAA championship administrator.
She had eight prior years of experience coaching and running a basketball program. Wasielewski spent three years as the assistant head coach at Colorado Academy, leading the team to the Class 3A Sweet Sixteen twice. She has also been a coach of the Mile Hi Rockies Basketball Club with the U15 teams. Her primary responsibilities were recruiting and player development, helping prospective student-athletes prepare to move on to college.
Most recently, Wasielewski led the operations management for the 2012 NCAA Women's Final Four Local Organizing Committee hosted by Denver. At the same time, she served on the 5A Girls Basketball Tournament Selection Committee in Colorado.
As a student-athlete, she was a four-year letterwinner and 1990 Big Ten champion at Northwestern University, graduating with a degree in computer science in 1991. She earned Big Ten all-academic honors twice and was a team captain of a team the reached the NCAA tournament two times. Wasielewski competed in 96 games, scoring 914 points with 367 rebounds. She scored a career-high 26 points in a road victory as a senior at the University of Michigan.
After graduation, she worked 11 years as a consultant with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLC and then went to Coors Brewing Company in 2002. There she served as a director in the information technology department, where she spent eight years. She spent her final four years at Coors as the Chief Information Officer and earned the Copper Kettle Leadership Award in 2004. During her time there, she completed her master's degree in business administration from the University of Denver.
Wasielewski lives in Arvada and enjoys golf, bicycling and walking her dogs.
