PJ Forrest joined the MSU Denver men's basketball program as an assistant coach in May, 2021, and also helped the women's program during the 2021-22 season. He then joined the women's program full-time in preparation for the 2022-23 season.
MSU Denver was 16-14 overall and 13-9 for sixth place in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in 2022-23.

Forrest came to the Roadrunners after serving as a graduate assistant coach at UCCSÂ for the previous three seasons.

He played collegiately at Florida College as well as at former RMAC member Eastern New Mexico, and current RMAC foe UCCS. For the Mountain Lions in the 2005-06 season, he had a team-best 83 assists while averaging 7.2 points, 2.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 24 games, including 19 starts.

He was a vice president and coach with the Texas Tigers basketball organization from 2007 from 2018, and was also a varsity assistant coach at Antonian College Preparatory in San Antonio for two seasons, from 2008-09 to 2009-10.
