James Van Artsdalen joined the MSU Denver women's soccer coaching staff as goalkeepers coach in July, 2024.
He has been the director of goalkeeping, an assistant, and goalkeeper coach for Boulder County United's WPSL, USL-W and USL-2 teams. With the United he established a club-wide goalkeeper curriculum for every tier of competition and skill.
Prior to that, Van Artsdalen was an assistant coach and goalkeeper coach for the Chicago Dutch Lions in Naperville, Ill., for the WPSL and USL-2 team, and was the director of goalkeeping for 2021-22 for the Lyons Township Soccer Club in LaGrange, Ill.
From 2018 through 2022, he was an assistant coach and goalkeeper coach at Division III Elmhurst (Ill.).
Other coaching stops included the Illinois Olympic Development Program (2017-20), the GK Factory in Chicago (he was the co-founder and technical director), the Lombard (lll.) Firebirds Soccer Club (2017-19), the Chicago Fire Soccer Cluub (2015). He was the U17/U18 girls head coach and director of goalkeeping for the Springfield (Ohio) Thunder from 2013-15, and he was varsity goalkeeper coach at Deerfield (Ill.) High School from 2009-11.
He was a national scout for Next College Student Athlete from 2016-17.
Van Artsdale played collegiately for Division III Lake Forest (Ill.) for two seasons and for Wittenberg (Ohio) for two seasons from 2011 through 2015. He was a two-year starter at Wittenberg, and as a senior was 6-8-1 with two shutouts, a 1.84 goals-against average and a .762 save percentage.
He played professionally in Costa Rica in 2015.
