Matt Deming

Matt Deming will be entering his fourth season as a full-time assistant coach and his fifth season overall with Metropolitan State University of Denver during the 2021 season.
 
His responsibilities include executing scouting reports, and he has worked extensively with training drills to improve blocking, outside hitting, and digging.

Deming helped MSU Denver to arguably the best season in program history in 2021, as the Roadrunners spent five weeks as the No. 1 team in NCAA Division II, earned a program-best season-ending ranking of No. 3, and went 28-4 overall record with a 24-match winning streak that included an 18-0 mark in RMAC regular-season play. MSU Denver played in the RMAC Tournament championship match for the sixth straight year and reached the NCAA Division II South Central Regional final in its 21st straight NCAA Tournament appearance. The Roadrunners led the RMAC in aces per set (1.85) as well as assists (1,544), digs (1,893), kills (1,642), aces (222) and blocks (256.5). MSU Denver was 14th nationally in assists, 17th in assists per set, 19th in kills, 22nd in service aces, 24th in hitting percentage (.246), 26th in blocks and 27th in kills per set (13.7)

MSU Denver was 15-2 overall and 11-1 for second place in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in the 2020 season (which was played in the the spring of 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic) and Deming's efforts helped the Roadrunners rank eighth in Division II in hitting percentage (.260), second in kills per set (14.2), 16th in opponent hitting percentage (.115), 20th in blocks per set (2.29), 20th in total blocks (133.0) and 20th in kills (822). MSU Denver was first or second in the RMAC in all of those categories.
 
With Deming's assistance in 2019, the Roadrunners reached their 20th consecutive NCAA Division II tournament. The Roadrunners were 23-8 overall, including a 16-2 mark for second place in the RMAC. MSU Denver reached the RMAC Tournament final for the fourth straight season, and took eventual national semifinalist Regis to five sets in a first-round regional loss.
 
In 2018, the Roadrunners finished the year with a 21-10 record overall and a 15-3 record in RMAC play. MSU Denver’s season ended in the NCAA tournament’s opening round against Colorado School of Mines.
 
Before coming to MSU Denver, Deming was a graduate manager for the volleyball team at Northern Colorado. He assisted with executing drills during practices.
 
Deming was an undergraduate assistant coach at Colorado Mesa during the 2014 season. He assisted in running drills during practices and also aided with recruiting and scouting.
 
He coached club volleyball for Choice Premier Volleyball Club in Windsor, Colo. Deming was also an assistant coach for the 17/18s team in 2016 and became the head coach for the 15s select team in 2017.
 
During his internship with the USA Women’s National Team, he gained valuable experience from observing volleyball at an extremely high level of competition and has implemented that throughout his career.
 
Deming earned his bachelor's degree in sports management from Colorado Mesa in May 2015 and is working on his master’s degree in sports coaching from Northern Colorado.
