Former MSU Denver setter Mikaela Kubiak enters her second second as a student assistant coach in 2020. She has been a member of the Academic All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference honor roll.

After redshirting for the 2017 season at MSU Denver, she worked her way into regular playing time as MSU Denver alternated among three setters while deploying a 6-2 offense in 2018. In RMAC-only matches, she ranked ninth in the league with 0.31 service aces per set.. She was second on the team with 5.58 assists per set, and third with 290 assists. In an RMAC Tournament quarterfinal win against Regis, she recorded 20 assists and career-best 16 digs. She set a career-best 27 assists in sweep of New Mexico Highlands.
