Patty Childress joined MSU Denver as a volunteer assistant coach in 2017, reuniting with Roadrunners coach Jenny Glenn, who had been an assistant for Childress at Grandview High School in Aurora, Colo., for two seasons.
Childress is a member of the National High School Athletic Coaches Association National Hall of Fame, the Colorado High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame, and the Colorado High School Activities Association’s Hall of Fame. She was also the Denver Post’s 2013 Dave Sanders Colorado Coach Award winner.

In addition to Grandview, Childress coached high school volleyball at Otis, Palisade and Ferndale as well as coaching at Colorado Mesa University. Her high school career record was 493-169 with Class 5A state championships in 2004, 2005, 2007, 2013 and 2014. She also led Grandview to five state runner-up finishes and two more semifinal appearances. She retired after the 2015 season.
A Limon (Colo.) High School graduate, she played volleyball at Northeastern (Colo.) Junior College and Northern Colorado.
