Steve Kollar

Steve Kollar enters his first year as Assistant Men's Basketball Coach at MSU Denver in the 2025-26 academic year.

Most recently Kollar was an Assistant Coach at the University of Chicago. Kollar helped lead U Chicago to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in the last seventeen years, the most wins in a season since 2007, and a top 25 D3 Hoops National Ranking for the first time since 2008. Some of Kollar’s main responsibilities were: lead role on personnel scouting, creating and implementing defensive game plans as defensive coordinator, film breakdown and analysis, and implementation of customized analytics. The University of Chicago finished as the #1 defensive team in PPG in the UAA, top 10 nationally in defensive PPG, and 12th in the country in the Massey ratings defensively. Kollar was a part of developing two All-Conference players and an All-Region selection.

Prior to University of Chicago, Kollar was a varsity assistant coach at Downers Grove North High School, helping lead the Trojans to a conference, regional, and sectional championship. Prior to Downers Grove North, Kollar served as the head coach at Concordia University Chicago where he led CUC to their first conference championship in school history in the 21-22 season as well as the best start in school history since 1967 (8-0) in the '22-23 season. Prior to Concordia Chicago, Kollar served as the head coach at Blackburn College. Kollar has been named Coach of the Year in two different conferences while at Blackburn College and Concordia University Chicago.

Prior to his head coaching career, Kollar was an Assistant Coach at Benedictine University and University of St. Francis. He played and graduated from Elmhurst University with a degree in secondary education. Kollar and his wife Sarah recently moved to Denver.
