The Metro State men's basketball team improved to 2-1 with a 65-50 victory over Aquinas College, Friday night in the Colorado Christian/Metro State Classic at the Auraria Events Center. CCU defeated Dickinson State College, 78-69, in the opening game of the tournament.
The 'Runners jumped on the Saints early, racing out to a six point lead in the first seven minutes of the game. MSCD continued to stretch the lead throughout the first half, finishing with a 36-16 advantage. Aquinas scored 11 straight points to start the second half and closed the gap to 36-27. But, the 'Runners again found their offense and pushed the lead back to 14 and 49-35. The Saints mounted one last comeback to close the score to 49-42, before Metro put the game away down the stretch.
Marquise Carrington led all scorers with 19, followed by Chris Robinson (Irvine, Calif./Jserra H.S.) and Donte Nicholas with 11 apiece.
The Roadrunners face Dickinson State College, Saturday at 7 p.m. CCU will face Aquinas at 5 p.m.
