Ola Sandquist scored two goals to lead the No. 18 Metro State men's soccer team (12-5-3, 8-3-3 RMAC) to a 2-1 victory over Colorado School of Mines, Friday afternoon in Durango, Colo. MSCD now advances to the final of the RMAC Championship to face No. 3 Fort Lewis, Sunday at 1 p.m.
Sandquist started the scoring in the ninth minute off an assist from Tyler Hambrick. Mines struck back in the 28th minute with a goal into the corner past the 'Runners' Ryan Vickery. The teams finished the first half tied 1-1. Sandquist opened the second half with a goal, off a misplaced clearance from the Mines defense to give the 'Runners the 2-1 lead. The Metro State defense was solid from there, allowing just five shots on goal, four of which Vickery saved.
The 'Runners will get a chance at revenge when they face the Skyhawks Sunday. Fort Lewis defeated MSCD last weekend, 3-2, to claim the regular season RMAC crown.
