Strong three point shoooting led the Metro State men's basketball team (5-1, 1-0 RMAC) to an easy 96-67 victory over Adams State, Friday night in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) opener for both squads.
The Roadrunners, who have now won five straight games after dropping their season-opener at St. Cloud State (Minn.), were led by Jesse Wagstaff (Canberra, Australia/Radford College)'s game-high 24 points, 11 of which came from the free throw line. Chris Robinson (Irvine, Calif./Jserra H.S.) added a career high 17 points and shot seven-for-10 from the field.
MSCD hit five of its first six three-point shots quickly building a 26-8 advantage in the first half. The 'Runners maintained the lead throughout the half, leading 51-31 at half.
The Grizzlies closed the 20-point halftime deficit to 14 just 2:50 into the half, but would get no closer as the Roadrunners cruised to the win, their first in five years and three visits to Plachy Hall.
Metro State will face Fort Lewis, Saturday at 7 p.m. in Durango. Both teams were picked to win their respective division in the RMAC Coaches Preseason poll, though the Skyhawks were upset by Regis University tonight.
