The Metro State men's soccer team started the season by splitting a pair of games in Salt Lake City, Utah. The 'Runners opened the season with a 3-0 victory over St. Martin's on Friday, but fell to Westminster College (Utah), 1-3 on Saturday.
Senior Ola Sandquist started the scoring against St. Martin's with a goal at 41:30. Freshman Chris Yoder got his first career goal at 47:26 to give the Roadrunners a 2-0 lead. Scott Grode added an insurance goal to give the 'Runners the 3-0 victory.
Westminster scored twice within six minutes to give them a quick 2-0 lead on Saturday. The Griffins added another goal before Sandquist took a pass from Grode and scored the 'Runners sole goal of the day.
MSCD plays Montana State-Billings, Monday at 11 a.m. MST.
