Emory and Herschberger Lead Metro State Past CCU

Box Score

LAKEWOOD, Colo. -
The No. 25 Metro State men's soccer team defeated Colorado Christian 2-0 on Friday on the road.  The Roadrunners improved to 6-3-1 overall and 3-1-1, while CCU dropped to 2-8-1 overall and 0-5-0 in the RMAC.

Steven Emory (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins H.S.) and Marc Herschberger (Westminster, Colo./Northglenn H.S.) each scored for Metro State.  Emory set a career high with 10 shot attempts, just one shy of the school record.  His eight shots on goal, however, set a Metro State single game record.  Antonio Porras set the previous record with seven against Colorado Christian on Oct. 4, 2005.

Metro State's defense made for an easy shutout for goalkeeper Dominique Griffith (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill H.S.) as CCU had no shots on goal and just six total shot attempts.  Metro State had 29 shot attempts, including 16 on goal as Cougar goalkeeper Jared Jacobs made 14 saves.

Herschberger started the scoring in the 35th minute as he scored on a breakaway for his first collegiate goal.

The score remained 1-0 at halftime as Metro State outshot CCU 15-6 in the first half.

Emory netted the second goal of the game in the 58th minute, again on a breakaway.  The Roadrunners played much better defense in the second half, holding the Cougars shotless, while Metro State attempted 14 shots.

Metro State will travel to Colorado Mines for a 2:30 p.m. game on Sunday.
