Complete Release (PDF)

This Week:

Twenty-first ranked Metro State will open the 2009 season at home again the University of Mary (N.D.) on Saturday, Aug. 29 at 1 p.m. at Auraria Field.

Scouting the Opponent:
Mary: The Marauders went 4-12-1 during the 2008 season, but return their top four point scorers in 2009. Leading the returners are Alex Calder and Matt Binegar, who totaled 10 and eight points last season each, respectively. Calder netted four goals and had two assists, along with a team-high 27 shot attempts. Binegar scored three goals and had two assists. Chris Stier, who scored three goals last year, and Cory Hittle, who added two goals, also both return. Starting goalkeeper Derek Luptak is also back after posting a 1.48 GAA and .810 save percentage a year ago.

All-Time Series Records:
Metro State won the only meeting between the two schools, a 5-0 victory at a neutral site in 2006.

Head coach Ken Parsons:
Roadrunners head coach Ken Parsons is entering his sixth year as the head coach at Metro State. In his five years, he has a record of 69-28-11 overall, including 43-14-7 in RMAC games. He has led the Roadrunners to three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, the most any coach has reached in Metro State history. His win total ranks third behind Brian Crookham's 79 and Harry Temmer's 202. However, Parsons' win percentage of .689 is the best in school history.

Season Openers:
Metro State has won eight of its past nine season opening games, including two straight under Parsons. Last season the Roadrunners opened with a 3-0 win over St. Martin's (Wash.). The only loss since 2000 came as a 3-2 overtime loss in 2006 at home against Midwestern State (Texas).

Ranked in the Preseason:
The Roadrunners open the season ranked 21st in the preseason NSCAA top-25 poll. Last year they finished 21st after opening the season at No. 7.
