COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Metro State's
Steven Emory (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins H.S.) netted two goals as the Roadrunners downed UC-Colorado Springs 3-0 in men's soccer on Friday night in Colorado Springs. It was the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opener for both teams, and Metro State improved to 4-2-0 overall, while UCCS fell to 2-3-0 overall.
The game was scoreless for nearly 75 minutes, but
Pat Laughlin (Scottsdale, Ariz./Brophy College Prep) finally found the net in the 75th minute with an assist from
Ri Armstrong (Aurora, Colo./Rangeview H.S.). Emory added an insurance goal in the 84th minute on a pass from
Mike Martinez (Thornton, Colo./Horizon H.S.) and added the final goal of the game in the 88th minute on a penalty kick following a yellow card on the UCCS goalkeeper, Adam Liszewski.
Metro State outshot the Mountain Lions 19-7, including 9-4 on goal. Emory and
Scott Grode (Gilbert, Ariz./Basha H.S.) each led the team with six shot attempts.
Dominique Griffith (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill H.S.) earned his second shutout of the season with four saves for the Roadrunners.
Metro State will continue conference play on Sunday at No. 24 Colorado State-Pueblo.
