Roadrunners Roll Past Northwest Nazarene

DENVER, Colo. -
The No. 23 Metro State volleyball team rolled past Northwest Nazarene (Idaho) 3-0, winning 29-27, 25-16, 25-21 on Saturday at the Colorado Premier Challenge at the Auraria Event Center.  The Roadrunners continued their hot start to the season, improving their record to 6-1, while the Crusaders dropped to 4-3.

Gabe Curtis (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.) continued to spread the ball around offensively, tallying 38 assists and adding two kills.  Emily Greenhalgh (Conifer, Colo./Conifer H.S.) had a match-high 12 kills, while Bri Morley (Parker, Colo./Cherokee Trail H.S.) chipped in with 10.  Anna Mapes (Chaska, Minn./Chaska H.S.) and Lisa Jones (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo East H.S.) each had seven as well.

Amy Watanabe (Littleton, Colo./Heritage H.S.) had 14 digs on defense.  She also led a great serve-receive effort with 30 serve receptions as the she and the team allowed no aces from the Crusaders.

Lisa Jones (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo East H.S.) tied a career-high with four of Metro State's 11 service aces.  Amanda Cook (Bellevue, Neb./Bellevue East H.S.) also had three.

The Roadrunners hit .220 (43-17-118) in the match and held NNU to .157 (35-18-108).

Metro State overcame two match points for Northwest Nazarene in the first set to come back for a 29-27 win.  Both teams had solid offensive attacks in the first set, each hitting over .360.

The Roadrunners came back with a strong defensive effort in the third, holding the Crusaders to a -.125 (7-11-32) hitting percentage.

NNU tied the score in the third set at 20-20 before Metro State won five of the final six points to win the match.

Metro State plays No. 3 West Texas A&M for the Silver Division championship at 5 p.m. at the Auraria Event Center.
