Three Roadrunners Score in Victory Over Northeastern

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -
The No. 13 Metro State men's soccer team cruised to a 4-1 victory over Northeastern State (Okla.) on Sunday in Wichita Falls, Texas.  The win improved the Roadrunners to 2-1 this season, while NSU dropped to 2-2.

Three different players scored for Metro State in the first half as Scott Grode (Gilbert, Ariz./Basha H.S.), Steven Emory (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins H.S.) and Ri Armstrong (Aurora, Colo./Rangeview H.S.) each had one goal.  Metro State added a fourth on an own goal in the second half.

Grode got Metro State on the board just 29 seconds into the game with his third goal of the season, scoring unassisted off a turnover by NSU in the box.

Emory headed a pass from Tyler Hambrick (Northglenn, Colo./Faith Christian H.S.) into the net in the 30th minute to give Metro State a 2-0 lead.

Metro State took a 3-0 lead just over a minute later when Armstrong had a 1-on-1 with the RiverHawk goalkeeper.  Brendon Lindsay stopped the initial shot, but Armstrong put the rebound past Lindsay for the goal.  Freshman Marc Herschberger (Westminster, Colo./Northglenn H.S.) tallied the assist for his first career point.

Metro state scored added the fourth goal in the 54th minute on an own goal.  But NSU finally got on the scoreboard four minutes later when Harrison Kutz scored off Zach Schmoker's corner kick.

Dominique Griffth made two saves for the Roadrunners, who outshot Northeastern 19-7 and had an 11-2 advantage on corner kicks.

Metro State travels to Washington for a pair of games at the end of this week against Western Washington on Thursday and Seattle Pacific on Saturday.
