Roadrunners Stunned at UCCS

Box Score

COLORADO SPRINGS -
No. 11 Metro State was stunned 3-2 in overtime at UC-Colorado Springs on Sunday.  The loss dropped the Roadrunners to 9-3-2 overall and 5-3-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while UCCS improved to 3-10-1 and 2-7-1.

Metro State had not lost to UCCS in 13 consecutive games dating back to 2003.  The Roadrunners were also coming off a 3-0 thrashing of No. 25 Fort Lewis.

Things started well for Metro State as Carlos Mendez (Denver, Colo./Broomfield H.S.) scored unassisted in the 32nd minute after dribbling up the left side and beating a defender.

But the Mountain Lions scored in the 48th minute and again in the 71st minute.  Metro State drew a foul in the box in the 87th minute and Steven Emory (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins H.S.) converted the opportunity to tie the game with just three minutes left in regulation.

But Landon Brunk headed Brett Drefs' free kick for a goal just three minutes into overtime to give UCCS the upset victory.

Metro State held a narrow edge in shots attempted at 27-26, but held a 13-9 edge in shots on goal.

Issa Bissau (Denver, Colo./Chatfield H.S.) made six saves.

Metro State will host top-ranked Colorado Mines at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
