PUEBLO, Colo. - No. 23 Metro State ended the 2010 regular season with a 4-1 victory at Colorado State-Pueblo on Sunday. The Roadrunners improved to 11-5-2 and 8-4-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while the ThunderWolves fell to 7-10-1 and 6-7-2 in the RMAC.
Steven Emory (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins H.S.) scored two more times, bringing his season total to 15 goals, as he stretched his school record streak of consecutive games with at least one point to nine games. However, his school record streak of consecutive games with an assist ended at six games.
Marc Herschberger (Westminster, Colo./Northglenn H.S.) opened the scoring with a goal in the 18th minute, assisted by
Andrew Mejia (Littleton, Colo./Mullen H.S.). Emory extended the lead to 2-0 in the 39th minute after a series of passes between Emory,
Jack Belanger (Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny H.S.) and
Walter Bertini (Boulder, Colo./Boulder H.S.).
Bertini got on the board unassisted in the 67th minute, scoring in the upper-left corner of the net.
CSUP scored with the aid of an own goal as Jonathan Hall's shot deflected off a Metro State defender's back and into the net in the 69th minute.
Emory scored again in the 85th minute, heading a cross from
Scott Crawford (Arvada, Colo./Pomona H.S.).
Issa Bissau (Denver, Colo./Chatfield H.S.) made two saves as Metro State outshot CSUP 29-8.
Metro State will host either CSU-Pueblo or Mesa State on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in the opening round of the RMAC Tournament.
