KEARNEY, Neb. - No. 12 Metro State fell 25-21, 24-26, 25-12, 25-20 at No. 10 Nebraska-Kearney in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championship match on Saturday afternoon in Kearney, Neb. The Roadrunners fell to 24-6, while UNK improved to 29-4.
Bri Morley (Parker, Colo./Cherokee Trail H.S.) led the Roadrunners with 14 kills, followed by
Julie Causseaux (Dumas, Texas/Dumas H.S.) and
Emily Greenhalgh (Conifer, Colo./Conifer H.S.) with 10 each. Metro State hit a season-low .112 in the match.
Defensively,
Ngoc Phan (Lone Tree, Colo./Cherry Creek H.S.) had 32 digs as Metro State had 102 in the match, the most this season.
Darcy Schwartzman (Aurora, Colo./Eaglecrest H.S.) had 19 digs,
Lisa Jones (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo East H.S.) had 16 and
Alex Green (Peoria, Ariz./Cactus H.S.) added 13.
Jones served a five-point run in the second set to put Metro State up 17-15. The Roadrunners held set point at 24-22, but two Metro State errors evened the score. Morley and Schwartzman then had back-to-back kills to give the Roadrunners the 26-24 win.
In the fourth set, Metro State could not get within two points of the Lopers after an 11-11 tie.
Morley and Phan were named to the all-tournament team. Morley averaged 3.33 kills per set and Phan averaged 7.92 digs per set over the weekend.
