DENVER - Reggie Evans (Aurora, Colo./Rangeview H.S.) scored a season-high 26 points as Metro State defeated Chadron State 82-63 on Saturday at home. The Roadrunners improved to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with their third straight win, while CSC fell to 4-4 and 2-2 in the RMAC.
Evans hit 10-of-19 from the floor, including 3-of-5 from the outside to lead all scorers.
Jonathan Morse (Boulder, Colo./Fairview H.S.) recorded his fourth career double-double and his second of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds, adding three steals and three assists.
Glenn Miller (Sacramento, Calif./Foothill H.S.) hit 4-of-5 from the floor and scored 10 points off the bench, while pulling down five rebounds.
Tommy Earl (Casper, Wyo./Natrona County H.S.) scored a career-high eight points off the bench, draining all three shots he took, including two 3-pointers.
Quaran Johnson (Philadelphia, Pa./Friends' Central H.S.) and
Paul Brotherson (Sydney, Australia/Westfields Sports High) each scored six. Johnson also had a team-high six assists.
Metro State shot 50.0 percent from the floor, reaching that mark for the second time this season, while holding Chadron State to just 36.2 percent. The Roadrunners also outrebounded the Eagles 42-33.
It looked to be a tight game early with five ties and five lead changes in the first half. Metro State finally took the lead for good at 20-19 on a 3-point play by Morse with 9:33 left in the half. A jump shot by
Brandon Jefferson (Flower Mound, Texas/Lewisville H.S.) gave Metro State its largest lead of the half at 40-26 with 1:22 left and the Roadrunners took that lead into the half behind 15 points from Evans and 11 points and seven boards from Morse.
Leading 47-39 with 14:18 to go in the game, Metro State went on a 21-3 run over seven minutes to hold a 68-42 lead with under seven minutes left, capping the run on a 3-pointer by Evans. A 3-pointer by Earl gave Metro State its largest lead of the game at 71-43 with 5:34 left in the game.
Evans had three dunks in the game, including two highlight-reel alley-oops from Johnson. He reached high above the box and grabbed the ball with one hand on each of the alley-oops.
The Roadrunners will play their final game of 2010 at home next Saturday at 7 p.m. against Regis University. Metro State will then open the New Year on the road on Jan. 2.
