LAKEWOOD, Colo. - No. 19 Metro State shot a season-low 34.9 percent as Colorado Christian upset the Roadrunners 80-66 on Friday night in Lakewood. The Roadrunners fell to 18-4 overall and 11-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while CCU improve to 9-12 overall and 7-7 in the RMAC.
The Roadrunners hit just 22-of-63 from the floor for its lowest field goal percentage since shooting 31.9 percent against Cal State San Bernardino on Nov. 4, 2007.
CCU was on fire on Friday, hitting 52.1 percent, while making 22-of-30 at the line. The rebounding was an even 36-36 in the game, just the fifth time all season Metro State has not had a rebounding advantage.
Justin Neuhaus provided an inside presence for the Cougars, scoring 22 points with seven rebounds, as he hit 6-of-7 from the floor and 10-of-13 at the line while Metro State center
Jonathan Morse (Boulder, Colo./Fairview H.S.) was in foul trouble. Morse finished with a team-high 18 points, making 9-of-14 shots, but 16 of his points came in the first half when he held Neuhaus to eight. Morse fouled out of the game with 6:37 left to play.
The Roadrunners' transition game was held in check, as CCU outscored Metro State 6-0 in fast break points, a column the Roadrunners usually dominate.
Donte Nicholas (Washington, D.C./Oakton H.S.) scored 15 points, but made just 4-of-16 from the floor, a career-low shooting percentage of 25 percent. The junior guard entered the game shooting 49 percent from the floor for the season.
Reggie Evans (Aurora, Colo./Rangeview H.S.) also had 14 points off the bench. #A.J. Flournoy# made 7-of-8 at the line to help him score nine points.
Metro State had just five assists in the game on 22 field goals, tying a season-low in assists.
CCU broke a 14-14 tie with 12 minutes left in the first half with a 12-4 run and the Cougars led the rest of the way. They took a 43-31 lead into halftime as Daniel Lemburg's fast break layup went through the net as the first half clock expired, capping a 12-3 run to close out the half.
Metro State trailed 51-41 with 12 minutes left in the second half when things briefly started to click on offense.
Josh Turner (Aurora, Colo./Eaglecrest H.S.) and Evans hit 3-pointers on consecutive trips down the floor, cutting the lead to four. But CCU come out of a timeout following Evans' basket with a 12-1 run to lead 63-48 with seven minutes left and put the game out of reach.
The Roadrunners will travel to Colorado Mines for an 8 p.m. game on Saturday.
