DENVER, Colo. - Metro State put together its best offensive performance in over a month, rolling past UC-Colorado Springs 85-62 on Tuesday evening in the quarterfinals of the RMAC Shootout. The Roadrunners improved to 22-6 on the season, while UCCS ended its season at 11-17.
Metro State shot 55.0 percent, its highest field goal percentage since Jan. 19, and hit a season-high nine 3-point field goals. Five players scored in double figures, led by
Brian Minor (Clovis, Calif./Clovis H.S.) with 19 points, six rebounds and five assists. He hit 7-of-13 from the floor, including 3-of-15 from the outside.
Donte Nicholas (Washington, D.C./Oakton H.S.) scored 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting and had three rebounds, three blocked shots, two steals and an assist.
Glenn Miller (Sacramento, Calif./Foothill H.S.) added a season-high 12 points off the bench with five rebounds. Miller played much of the game in place of
Jonathan Morse (Boulder, Colo./Fairview H.S.), who scored 11 points and had five rebounds, despite playing just nine minutes with foul trouble.
Reggie Evans (Aurora, Colo./Rangeview H.S.) also scored 11 and had four assists and three steals.
Shakir Johnson (Los Angeles, Calif./Dorsey H.S.) tied a career-high with five blocked shots.
UCCS shot 47.1 percent from the floor, making it just the second time this season the Mountain Lions have shot over 45 percent and lost. However, they hit a season-low 38.1 percent at the line, making 8-of-21, and had 20 turnovers. UCCS did outrebound Metro State 34-32.
Metro State will face Colorado State-Pueblo on Friday at 1 p.m.. The semifinals and championship game on Friday and Saturday at the State Fair Events Center in Pueblo, Colo. CSU-Pueblo upset top-seeded Mesa State 73-65 on Tuesday.
