DENVER - The No. 20 Metro State men's soccer team rolled past Seattle Pacific 3-0 on Friday in its home opener at Metro State. The Roadrunners improved to 3-0 this season in non-conference play, while SPU dropped to 0-2-1.
Scott Grode (Gilbert, Ariz./Basha H.S.) got Metro State on the board just 10 minutes into the game, scoring his own rebound from a scrum after his own rebound deflected off multiple players.
Carlos Mendez (Denver, Colo./Broomfield H.S.) set up
Walter Bertini (Boulder, Colo./Boulder H.S.) for a breakaway on the left side 23 minutes minutes later, but SPU goalkeeper Zach Johnson made the stop.
Dele Johnson (Arvada, Colo./Pomona H.S.) scored Metro State's second goal, his second career goal and his second goal in as many games, in the 54th minute. Johnson broke away at midfield and dribbled through three defenders at the top of the box before pushing it past the goalkeeper.

Steven Emory (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins H.S.) set up
Marc Herschberger (Westminster, Colo./Northglenn H.S.) for a breakaway and he scored past a charging keeper from just inside the top of the box.
Issa Bissau (Denver, Colo./Chatfield H.S.) recorded his second shutout in his second career start, making four saves. Metro State has now held all three of is opponents scoreless this season.
The Roadrunners out-shot SPU 20-10 on Friday. They will host Western Washington on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
