Metro State Rallies for Second Straight Win

MONMOUTH, Ore. –
No. 10 Metro State rallied to win 22-25, 25-16, 25-21, 25-20 over host Western Oregon on Saturday afternoon at the GNAC Conference Challenge in Monmouth. The Roadrunners improved to 2-1 at the season-opening tournament, while the Wolves dropped to 2-1.

Metro State hit just .115 in the first set and made 12 errors to drop the opening frame. But the Roadrunners rallied to hit .406 in the second set and .296 in the third set. Conversely, Metro State held WOU to a .123 hitting percentage for the match.

Three players had more than one ace as the Roadrunners totaled 12 service aces in the match, led by Ngoc Phan (Lone Tree, Colo./Cherry Creek H.S.) with four, followed by Julie Causseaux (Dumas, Texas/Dumas H.S.) with three and Lisa Jones (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo East H.S.) with two.

Bri Morley (Parker, Colo./Cherokee Trail H.S.) led the Roadrunners with team highs of 12 kills and 18 digs. She also had three assists and hit .312 (12-2-32). Emily Greenhalgh (Conifer, Colo./Conifer H.S.) had 10 kills. Phan added 13 digs and freshman Alex Green (Peoria, Ariz./Cactus H.S.) had 12.

Metro State will play Central Washington at 8 p.m. (PDT) to wrap up the GNAC Conference Challenge this evening.
