DENVER - Metro State neared multiple school records as the host team crushed UC-Colorado Springs 77-39 on Saturday. Metro State improved to 13-2 overall and 10-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference on Saturday, stretching its winning streak to 10 games. This marks the first time in school history both the men's and women's teams have had winning streaks of 10 or more at the same time. The women's team is currently on a 15-game winning streak.
UCCS fell to 4-11 and 2-9 on Saturday.
The 39 points allowed were tied for the second-fewest allowed in school history. Metro State allowed 36 points in an 83-36 win over Queens College on Nov. 16, 2001.
The Roadrunners also held UCCS to 25.5 percent shooting in the game. The school record is 21.7 percent. UCCS also scored just 16 points in the second half, four off the record for fewest points allowed in a half.
One record did actually fall, as the Mountain Lions shot just 4-of-28 (.143) in the second half. That was the lowest field goal percentage ever allowed in the second half of a game. Three different teams have shot 16.7 percent in the second half against Metro State. Bethany (Kan.) shot 12.5 (2-for-16) in the first half against Metro State on Dec. 19, 2003.
Reggie Evans (Aurora, Colo./Rangeview H.S.) scored a game-high 18 points, hitting 7-of-13 from the floor.
Glenn Miller (Sacramento, Calif./Foothill H.S.) added his second double-double this season with 12 points and 10 rebounds in his second consecutive start.
Brandon Jefferson (Flower Mound, Texas/Lewisville H.S.) chipped in with 11 points off the bench, burying three 3-pointers.
Jonathan Morse (Boulder, Colo./Fairview H.S.) and
Quaran Johnson (Philadelphia, Pa./Friends' Central H.S.) both scored eight.
#A.J. Flounroy# tied a career high with six assists and had three steals and five rebounds. Jefferson had a career-high five assists.
UCCS kept the game close in the first half and held the lead for the first six minutes as the Roadrunners started cold, missing five of their first six shots and turning the ball over four times in the first six minutes. Metro State rallied and took a 30-23 lead into halftime.
Metro State opened the second half on a 19-6 run and never looked back. A 15-0 run stretched the lead to 34 points at 66-32 with 7:41 left. The final scoring margin of 38 points matched the largest lead Metro State has held all season. The Roadrunners held a 38-point lead in an 83-51 season-opening victory over Evergreen State (Wash.).
For the game, Metro State shot 45.0 percent from the floor and 7-of-20 from the outside. The Roadrunners also had a 47-35 rebounding advantage and committed just nine turnovers, while forcing 16. It was the third straight game of 10 or fewer turnovers by Metro State.
The Roadrunners will travel to Fort Lewis on Friday for an 8 p.m. game. Metro State currently holds a one-game lead over the Skyhawks in the RMAC standings.
