Men's Basketball Upended at Adams State

ALAMOSA, Colo. –
Metro State fell 59-54 at Adams State on Saturday evening in a physical battle in Alamosa, Colo. Metro State fell to 14-3 overall and 11-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while ASC improved to 13-3 overall and 10-3.

The loss snapped an 11-game winning streak for the Roadrunners.

Quaran Johnson (Philadelphia, Pa./Friends' Central H.S.) led all scorers with 16 points on 5-of-12 shooting. #A.J. Flournoy and (Golden, Colo./Golden H.S.)Brandon Jefferson each scored 10. (Golden, Colo./Golden H.S.)Jonathan Morse# had 16 rebounds, the first time a Roadrunner has had more than 15 since Jesse Wagstaff pulled down 15 on Dec. 19, 2008. Morse also scored nine points.

The Roadrunners jumped out to a 22-9 lead with 6:54 left in the first half, though Adams State closed the gap to four points at 25-21 with 2:30 left. Metro State recovered and took a 32-24 lead into halftime thanks to 12 first-half rebounds from Morse, helping the team to a 25-17 advantage on the boards at half. Quaran Johnson (Philadelphia, Pa./Friends' Central H.S.) led all scorers with 12 points in the first half, hitting 5-of-6 at the line.

Metro State led 38-31 with 15:33 left in the game after a 3-pointer by #A.J. Flournoy#. But ASC answered with an 11-4 run to take its first lead of the second half at 43-41 with 8:17 to play.

The Grizzlies took the lead for good at 49-47 with 4:04 left when Jamiko Verner scored on a layup.

The Roadrunners shot a season-low 35.3 percent from the floor and just 1-of-9 from the outside. They also turned the ball over a season-high 21 times.

Metro State will look to rebound with a game at home against Western State at 7 p.m. on Friday.
