Balanced Attack Pushes Men's Basketball into First Place in RMAC

Four Roadrunners scored in double figures as Metro State topped Western State 66-54 on the road to move into a tie for first place in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.  Colorado Mines fell 97-93 to Western New Mexico on Monday as the Roadrunners are now tied with Mines at 6-1 in the RMAC.

Metro State improved to 9-2 overall this season, while WSC fell to 2-11 and 1-7 in the RMAC.

The Roadrunners led by nine points several times in the first half, but could not put the Mountaineers away.  WSC went on to tie the game midway through the second half.  However, Metro State ended the game on a 16-4 run over the final 10:30.  Metro State held its largest lead of the game of 12 points at the final buzzer.

Reggie Evans (Aurora, Colo./Rangeview H.S.) led all scorers with 16 points and had a team-high six rebounds, despite hitting just 5-of-15 from the floor.  Quaran Johnson (Philadelphia, Pa./Friends' Central H.S.) scored 14 on 5-of-7 shooting.  #A.J. Flournoy# matched a season high with 13 points and was a perfect 4-for-4 at the line.  Jonathan Morse (Boulder, Colo./Fairview H.S.) scored 11.  Glenn Miller (Sacramento, Calif./Foothill H.S.) added six points and four rebounds off the bench.

Western State shot 48.8 percent, but Metro State won the turnover battle by forcing 18 and committing just 11.  The Roadrunners also held a slight rebounding edge of 29-26 and hit 14-of-18 (.778) at the line.

Metro State will host Colorado Mines for first place on Friday at 7 p.m.
