Men's Basketball Stretches Winning Streak to Eight Games

DENVER -
Metro State stretched its winning streak to eight games with a 67-51 victory over Colorado Christian on Saturday at home.  The Roadrunners improved to 11-2 overall and 8-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while CCU fell to 4-8 and 3-6.  Metro State remains alone atop the RMAC standings.

Jonathan Morse (Boulder, Colo./Fairview H.S.) recorded his fifth career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds and he added three steals and two blocked shots on the defensive end.  #A.J. Flournoy# narrowly missed his first career double-double with nine points and a career high 11 rebounds.  He also had a game high four assists and two steals.

Reggie Evans (Aurora, Colo./Rangeview H.S.) led all scorers with 16 points, hitting 5-of-8 from the floor and adding six rebounds.  Quaran Johnson (Philadelphia, Pa./Friends' Central H.S.) scored eight points and had three rebounds and three assists.  Paul Brotherson (Sydney, Australia/Westfields Sports High), Brandon Jefferson (Flower Mound, Texas/Lewisville H.S.) and Glenn Miller (Sacramento, Calif./Foothill H.S.) each scored six.

The Roadrunners dominated the boards, outrebounding the Cougars 46-31 and shot 43.4 percent from the floor, compared to just 31.5 percent for CCU.  Both teams took care of the ball as Metro State committed just 10 turnovers and CCU seven.

Metro State built a 10-point lead early at 16-6 just seven minutes into the game.  The Roadrunners led by as much as 14 in the first half and took a 34-23 lead into halftime behind nine rebounds from Flournoy.

After the Cougars cut the lead to seven six minutes into the second half, Metro State quickly built its lead back to double digits and remained in a comfortable lead the rest of the game.  A putback dunk by Evans with 2:25 left in the game stretched the lead to 20 points at 67-47, the largest lead of the game.  A late 3-pointer and free throw by CCU gave Metro State a 16-point victory.

The Roadrunners continue their four-game homestand next weekend, hosting Colorado State-Pueblo on Friday and UC-Colorado Springs on Saturday.  Both games start at 7 p.m.
