DENVER -
Scott Grode (Gilbert, Ariz./Basha H.S.) tied the school record with a goal in his fifth consecutive game as No. 21 Metro State won 2-1 over Colorado State-Pueblo on Tuesday in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament quarterfinals.  The Roadrunners improved to 13-5-1 and CSUP dropped to 5-11-3.

Grode tied Aldo Castillo (1994), Zack Cousins (2003) and Phillip Owen (2004) with a goal in five straight games.  He scored 15:51 into the game, connecting on a pass from Marc Herschberger (Westminster, Colo./Northglenn H.S.) in the box, who one-touched a long pass from Andrew Mejia (Littleton, Colo./Mullen H.S.).

Brenden Hughes (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge H.S.), a transfer from CSU-Pueblo, pushed the lead to 2-0 just 10 minutes later.  Josh Buysse (Longmont, Colo./Longmont H.S.) fired a pass into the box to Chris Yoder (Gilbert, Ariz./Mesquite H.S.), who, with his back to the goal, one-touched the ball behind him and over his head to Hughes, who one-touched the ball into the net as he was running towards the net from the right side of the box in a spectacular sequence.

Metro State continued to pile on the shots in the first half, outshooting CSUP 11-3 in the half.

But the ThunderWolves came out strong in the second half, playing the Roadrunners evenly.  Ryan Hunter scored his first goal of the season on a putback shot at 59:43.

Hunter nearly tied the game in the 85th minute, forcing Issa Bissau (Denver, Colo./Chatfield H.S.) to make a diving save to his left, while being shielded by two players.

Bissau made two saves and Shailer Thomas (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington H.S.) made one in the first 45 minutes of the game as the two split time for the second straight game.

Metro State will face No. 13 Regis on Friday at 12:30 p.m. in Durango in the RMAC Tournament semifinals.
