Box Score DENVER - No. 1-ranked Metro State reached a season high in points with a 93-78 win over Colorado Mesa at home on Friday evening in front of its largest crowd of the season. The Roadrunners improved to 11-0 overall and 6-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while CMU fell to 7-4 and 5-2. The Mavericks entered the day alone in second place in the conference behind Metro.
Reggie Evans (Aurora, Colo./Rangeview H.S.) scored 22 points on 10-of-20 shooting and had five rebounds and four assists.
Demetrius Miller (Flint, Mich./Flint Central H.S.) added 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting with four assists.
Jonathan Morse (Boulder, Colo./Fairview H.S.) scored 19 points and
Brandon Jefferson (Flower Mound, Texas/Lewisville H.S.) had 15 as the four players combined for 77 of the team's 93 points.
Morse also had eight rebounds and shot 6-of-8 from the floor and 7-of-10 at the line. Jefferson hit 4-of-10 from the outside with three assists.
Nicholas Kay (Tamworth, Australia/Newington College) provided a team-high nine rebounds off the bench and scored five points.
Metro State came within one turnover of its lowest total in school history, committing just four in the game. The Roadrunners forced 10 CMU miscues.
Evans had a dominant first half, scoring 13 points to lead all scorers. His spectacular, twisting, 3-point play with 3:41 left put the Roadrunners up 35-28. Metro built its lead up to 41-33 on a 3-pointer by Miller with 1:57 to go for the largest lead of the first half, but five straight points by the Mavericks cut the lead to three. A layup by Evans at the buzzer put Metro back up 43-38 heading into the locker room.
CMU shot 59.1 percent in the first half, but Metro State committed just two turnovers and hit 12-of-14 at the line.
Metro used a 13-4 run in the second half to take a 79-62 lead with 5:37 left as Jefferson capped the run with back-to-back 3-pointers. The Mavericks went cold at the free throw line, at one point missing five in a row during the run.
The Roadrunners took their largest lead of the game on a 3-pointer by
Paul Brotherson (Sydney, Australia/Westfields Sports High) with 4:31 left in the game, putting the team up 83-65.
CMU, which entered the game shooting an RMAC-best 77.2 percent at the line, made just 23-of-37 in the game, a 62.2 percent clip. At one point, the Mavericks had made just 16-of-29 (.551).
Both teams shot well from the floor, with the Mavericks making 54.3 percent and Metro hitting 53.2 percent.
Metro State's attendance was a season-best 976.
Metro State will host Western State at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
