DENVER - Reggie Evans (Aurora, Colo./Rangeview H.S.) scored a game-high 21 points to pass the 1,000 points mark for his career as Metro State finished the regular season with a 75-65 victory at Regis University on Saturday. The Roadrunners improved to 20-6 overall this season and 16-5 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while Regis finished its year at 6-20 and 3-19.
For Metro State, it is the 13th time in the past 14 seasons that Metro State has reached the 20-win mark.
Evans made 7-of-13 from the floor and also pulled down 10 rebounds for his third consecutive double-double. He came the 14th player in school history to score 1,000 points in his career and currently sits at 1,011.
Jonathan Morse (Boulder, Colo./Fairview H.S.) added 18 points and 12 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the year. Morse was nearly flawless, making 7-of-8 from the floor and 4-of-4 at the line. While he has been dominant on the boards all year, it was just the second time in the past 13 games that he has scored in double figures.
#A.J. Flournoy# tied a season-high with 17 points, hitting 9-of-9 at the line. He has made 24-of-26 at the line in the past three games.
Glenn Miller (Sacramento, Calif./Foothill H.S.) scored eight points,
Quaran Johnson (Philadelphia, Pa./Friends' Central H.S.) had six and
Brandon Jefferson (Flower Mound, Texas/Lewisville H.S.) chipped in with five.
Metro State shot 52.1 percent from the floor in the game, its second-highest shooting percentage this season. The Roadrunners also dominated the boards, outrebounding Regis 37-16. The record for fewest rebounds by an opponent is 13 by Notre Dame de Namur in 2002.
Regis controlled the first half of the game, building a 10-point lead with 4:35 left at 36-26 on a 3-pointer. The Rangers made 7-of-16 from the outside in the game, including 5-of-10 in the first half. The Roadrunners fought back over the final minutes before half and trailed 41-37 at the break.
Metro State opened the second half on fire with an 8-0 run over the first minute-and-a-half and took its first lead of the game at 43-41 at the 19-minute mark on a jumper by Flournoy. Moments before with 19:18 left, Evans tied the game with a fastbreak dunk for his 1,000th career point and 10th of the game.
The Roadrunners were never able to pull away. They made 6-of-6 at the line in the final minute to secure the win.
It was the first time since last season's RMAC Shootout championship game at Metro State overcame a double digit lead to come back and win. The Roadrunners fell behind by 19 points in the second half of that game, but pulled off a shocking comeback to win 83-79 against New Mexico Highlands.
Metro State earned the No. 2 seed in the upcoming RMAC Shootout and will host Western New Mexico at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in the quarterfinals.
