Cold Shooting Night Dooms Men's Basketball at Mines

Metro State fell to Colorado Mines 65-48 on Saturday evening in Golden. The loss dropped the Roadrunners to 17-4 overall and 14-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while CSM improved to 18-3 overall and 14-3 in the RMAC. The two teams are now tied for first place in the conference.

Metro State shot a season-low 33.3 percent from the floor, including 2-of-10 from the outside. In comparison, the Orediggers connected at a 46.8 percent clip from the floor and buried 6-of-16 from 3-point range.

The Roadrunners had no answer for Sean Armstrong, who poured in 28 points to lead CSM, hitting 8-of-11 from the floor and 12-of-15 at the line. He was two points shy of tying a career high.

Brandon Jefferson (Flower Mound, Texas/Lewisville H.S.) led Metro State with 10 points off the bench, hitting 5-of-6 at the line. Jonathan Morse (Boulder, Colo./Fairview H.S.) scored nine points and had five rebounds, but fouled out with 13:59 left in the game.

The Roadrunners trailed by seven at half, 33-26. They cut the lead to four just a minute-and-a-half into the second half, but CSM went on an 8-0 run and never looked back.

Metro State will hit the road to play at Nebraska-Kearney and Chadron State next weekend.
