COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -
Metro State men's tennis player Ross Gelina (Wichita, Kan./Andover H.S.) and women's player Nadia Khamis (Corona, Calif./Corona H.S.) were named Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tennis players of the week late Tuesday night.  It is just the second time in school history Metro State has had the men's and women's tennis player of the week in the same week.  Carlos Delgado and Jasmon Crabb both earned their respective awards on April 16, 2003.

Gelina, a senior from Wichita, Kan., led Metro State to a perfect 2-0 week with wins on the road at Colorado College on Friday and CSU-Pueblo on Saturday. He topped CC's Evan Jonker 6-3, 0-6, 6-0 on Friday, overcoming an injury he suffered in the second set to win in three, helping the Roadrunners to a 5-4 team victory. He and teammate Jonathan Evangelista won 8-6 at No. 2 doubles. On Saturday, Gelina beat CSUP's Anthony Breitenbach in three sets in the team's 6-3 victory. He and Evangelista won 8-5 at No. 2 doubles.

Khamis, a junior from Corona, Calif., went 2-0 at No. 5 singles and 2-0 at No. 3 doubles last week, leading Metro State to a split with Colorado College and CSU-Pueblo. Khamis cruised to straight-set wins over Maddy Bush from CC and Cindy Boughton of CSUP. She and teammate Sam Schall combined for two doubles wins as well.
