Box Score PUEBLO - Brandon Jefferson (Flower Mound, Texas/Lewisville H.S.) connected on 7-of-10 from the outside for 27 points to lead No. 5 Metro State to a 69-49 win at Colorado State-Pueblo on Friday night. The Roadrunners improved to 14-1 overall and 9-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while the ThunderWolves fell to 7-7 and 4-6.
It was the most impressive road performance for Metro this season, shooting 44.2 percent, committing just 10 turnovers and outrebounding CSUP 34-29. The Roadrunners also made a season-high 10 3-point field goals in just 22 attempts (.455).
Jefferson shot 9-of-13 from the floor to lead all scorers, and added four rebounds and two steals. His seven 3-pointers came up two shy of the school record.
Reggie Evans (Aurora, Colo./Rangeview H.S.) joined Jefferson with 20 points on 6-of-15 shooting, including a pair of 3-pointers, while pulling down a game-high seven rebounds and dishing out four assists off the bench. He also knocked down all six of his free throw attempts as the Roadrunners hit 13-of-14 (.929) at the line.
Jonathan Morse (Boulder, Colo./Fairview H.S.) scored 11 points with a just two rebounds, his lowest total since his freshman season in 2009-10.
After an abysmal start to the game, falling behind 16-9 just eight minutes in, the Roadrunners caught fire from deep. Despite missing their first six 3-point attempts, they buried six of their final seven (.857) and took a 39-28 halftime lead. The Roadrunners outscored the ThunderWolves 21-9 over the final 5:51 and connected on their final three 3-point attempts of the half.
Jefferson connected on 3-of-5 from the outside for 11 halftime points and Evans led all scorers with 14 points, making both of his 3-point attempts. Evans had not hit a 3-pointer since Dec. 10 at Chadron State, a stretch of five games without a triple.
Metro continued its hot shooting into the second half as the Roadrunners pulled away. Jefferson buried 4-of-5 from the outside in the second half for 16 points.
Andre Martin led the ThunderWolves with 13 points, all in the first half.
Metro State will travel to UC-Colorado Springs for a 7:30 p.m. game on Saturday.
