Box Score DENVER - Reggie Evans (Aurora, Colo./Rangeview H.S.) made an off-balance jumper in the lane with 10.4 seconds left as No. 5 Metro State rallied to hold off an upset bid by Adams State and win 52-51 on Saturday night at the Auraria Event Center. The Roadrunners improved to 17-1 overall and 12-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while ASC fell to 12-4 and 9-4.
Adams State took a 41-40 lead with 9:29 left and maintained that lead until Evans' shot. The Grizzlies built their lead up to four several times and led by two with a minute left.
Jonathan Morse (Boulder, Colo./Fairview H.S.) hit a free throw with 51 seconds left to cut the lead to 51-50.
Brandon Jefferson (Flower Mound, Texas/Lewisville H.S.) and Morse then trapped ASC guard Deray Wilson at halfcourt and forced a double dribble call with 22.1 seconds to play.
After a Roadrunners timeout, Evans drove from the left wing and hit his shot with 10.4 seconds left.
Following an Adams State timeout, it was Morse and Jefferson again with the defensive stop, double-teaming Wilson at the 3-point line and forcing an off-balance shot just inside the arc that landed in the middle of the lane. Jack Osborn's attempt to tip the ball over his shoulder and in failed to reach the rim as time expired.
Evans, who had hit just 4-of-15 from the floor before his game-winner, finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Morse had 16 points and a season-high 15 rebounds, making 4-of-8 from the floor and 8-of-12 at the line. Ten of his rebounds came on the offensive glass, leading Metro to a 19-9 advantage on second-chance points.
Paul Brotherson (Sydney, Australia/Westfields Sports High) also scored in double figures, finishing with 10 points. His 35-foot 3-pointer as the shot clock expired with 5:32 left in the game cut ASC's lead back to one and energized the season-high Metro State crowd of 1,048.

Brandon Jefferson (Flower Mound, Texas/Lewisville H.S.) finished with four as all 52 points came from Metro's five starters.
The Roadrunners played an atrocious first half, thanks to high-pressure defense by Adams State. The Grizzlies forced 10 turnovers and held Metro to just 33.3 percent shooting.
ASC built an 11-point lead in the first half, but four points in the final minute by Morse cut the Grizzlies halftime lead to 30-23. He led all scorers with 12 points and had nine rebounds at the break.
The Roadrunners came out in the second half on fire as Brotherson capped a 9-0 run with a 3-pointer from the right corner for a 32-30 lead with 16:22 left, the first lead for Metro since early in the first half.
However, the Grizzlies weathered the storm and never trailed by more than three points in the second half.
For the game, Metro State shot just 35.3 percent from the floor, compared to 37.7 percent for ASC. After committing 10 turnovers in the first half, Metro finished with 12 for the game, and outrebounded the Grizzlies 37-34.
Marqus Richards led Adams State with 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting. Wilson added 10 points off the bench. Kaimyn Pruit grabbed 11 rebounds and had six points, but fouled out with 2:20 left.
Metro State will travel to Western State on Friday and Colorado Mesa on Saturday.
